Pumpkin Patch Trolley Weekends
at the Seashore Trolley Museum
PUMPKIN PATCH TROLLEY: The Seashore Trolley Museum announces the last big event in it's 60th anniversary season. The first weekend in October (October 2, 3), the Museum will provide Trolley rides to Meserve's Crossing so that Museum Patrons may pick their own pumpkins. Pumpkins have been planted by students of Arundel's School Around Us. One pumpkin will be available FREE for each paid admission. Trolley rides to the "pumpkin patch" will run on the hour from 11am until 2pm. Museum visitors are transported to the patch, where they select their pumpkin, are given a "claim check" and then board their trolley to continue their ride onto Talbot Park. Upon their return to the Museum's Visitors Center, their "orange commodity" will be available from an attendant on the former Portsmouth, Dover & York Railways Mail and Express Car #108. The passenger will then present their "claim check" in order to receive their pumpkin.
STAMP COLLECTORS TAKE NOTE:
To commemorate the event the United States Postal Service has agreed to offer a special cancellation postmark through their Kennebunkport office on October 2nd at the Museum aboard car #108. The car transporting the pumpkins will be Car No 108, a 1904 U.S. Postal Delivery Department Mail Car that carried the mail in York County until 1912. Car #108 is one of the Museum's ten Maine trolley cars that are on the National Historic Register. On this day, Museum visitors will have the opportunity to purchase a commemorative postcard featuring this special cancellation postmark.Visitors to the Seashore Trolley Museum can enjoy the everyday low admission price of just $7* all day with unlimited rides, children ages 6 - 16 for only $4.50 and children 5 and under ride free. The Seashore Trolley Museum is the world’s oldest & largest museum of mass transit vehicles and is home to the National Collection of Historic American Streetcars. Located on Log Cabin Road in Kennebunkport Maine, the museum houses trolleys and streetcars that once plied the streets of America’s greatest cities, plus many more from around the world. Visitors can explore the museum’s exhibit barn, ride the scenic trolleys, browse the trolley library and watch cars being restored in the restoration shop. For an additional fee of $30, one can even be a "Motorman" and operate one of the 20-ton trolleys. This living history museum offers a nostalgic journey into the past and a living memory of the grand trolley era for all ages to enjoy.
The Museum will be open daily through October 19th and weekends through October 31st. For additional information please call 207-967-2800 or visit them on the web at www.trolleymuseum.org.
