Seashore Trolley Museum accepts

Generous Gift from Tech Incorporated of Merrimack NH

Kennebunkport, Maine The Seashore Trolley Museum is pleased to announce that Tech Incorporated of Merrimack NH has donated an Electrical Discharge Machine (EDM) to be used in the Museum's Restoration Shop. This EDM machine is an invaluable addition to the Seashore Trolley Museum's machine shop, which must custom-make many of the parts necessary to keep its world-wide collection of historic trolley cars in operation. This machine possesses the capability of rapidly cutting carbide and hardened steels to extremely close tolerances. Museum machinist Ed Johnson has over 45 years of machine shop experience, and is extremely excited at the prospect of putting the machine to immediate use in meeting the many and varied challenges involved in restoring and maintaining old electric railway vehicles, some of which are a century old.

"We are extremely grateful to Tech Incorporated for their donation of this machine to us in this, our 60th Anniversary Year", commented Museum Director Phil Morse, "To purchase such a machine new would have cost us over $100,000, which gives some idea of the generosity of the company in making this donation."

The generous donation was arranged by Tech Incorporated Chief Operating Officer Roger E. Somers, who is also a long-time, active member at the Trolley Museum. The machine was moved to Maine on Tuesday April 6, 1999, and is expected to be in operation at the Museum's Town House Carshop by the end of this month.

The Seashore Trolley Museum will be celebrating its 60th Anniversary this summer with season long promotions and events. The Seashore Trolley Museum is the world’s oldest & largest museum of mass transit vehicles and is home to the National Collection of Historic American Streetcars.
