Seashore Trolley Museum - Car #31 Turns 100!

It is going to be an exciting summer at the Seashore Trolley Museum in Kennebunkport Maine as Car #31, the Museum's flagship car turns 100! Car #31 has recently been designated as a "Save America's Treasures" Project and is the car that began the streetcar preservation movement.

The Museum will open for its 61st season on Saturday May 6, 2000. The Seashore Trolley Museum is the world’s oldest & largest museum of "its type". It is home to the "National Collection of American Streetcars", housing trolleys and streetcars that once plied the streets of America’s greatest cities, plus many more from around the world.

New this year, the Seashore Trolley Museum will offer guided tours daily in July and August. Tours will lead guests to the Orientation Room for a brief talk about the development and impact of the streetcar industry (the importance of the Museum and its mission) and then out on to the 4-mile ride through the Maine countryside in an authentically restored antique electric trolley car. The Tour continues into the exhibit barns displaying "a century of streetcars" (1873 - 1973) and through the Town House Restoration Shop where trolleys are lovingly and meticulously restored; "where the magic happens".

Groups and families of all ages delight in this fascinating experience and get to relive how our grandparents traveled before the automobile became king. Visitors have an opportunity, for only $40, to “Be-a-Motorman” and drive one of the 20-ton trolleys.

"Take a Ride into Yesteryear" at the Seashore Trolley Museum in Kennebunkport Maine. The Fare: only $7 for adults, $5 for seniors, and $4.50 for ages 6 to 16 for unlimited rides and full museum access all day. Children 5 and under are free.
