Arundel Car Wash

Friday, May 6, 2011
Event Hours: 9 am - 1 pm
There will be a car wash at Seashore Trolley Museum – a trolley car wash that is. Thornton Academy Middle School (TAMS) sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students and staff will be providing a community service for Seashore Trolley Museum.
The students and staff of TAMS will be preparing the Museum's campus and its collections for its 72nd season by rotating through several separate "stations" all the while learning to care for antique trolleys and buses that have played an important role in our country's transportation history. Stations include tours of the Museum campus as well as work areas such as washing, sweeping, and dusting historic transportation vehicles. Tours will include visits to the Restoration Shop, the exhibit, History in Motion: Public Transportation Connecting Maine Communities, and to the new developing Civil Rights exhibit, A Seat for Everyone: Public Transportation Weaving the Fabric of Society. All students will take a trolley ride on the Museum's interpretive railway.
The Museum's historic railway runs for 3 miles along the Arundel-Kennebunkport-Biddeford portion of the Atlantic Shore line Railway, which operated from 1904 to 1927. Throughout that time, the Atlantic Shore Line was an essential transportation link carrying residents and tourists to work, school, as well as recreation and shopping destinations.
Thornton Academy upper school students who are enrolled in the TATV program will be documenting the various activities as TAMS students move through the Museum campus. TATV is a program for students who have a passion for creative video work and for broadcast journalism.
TATV receives content for airing from the Art of Broadcasting and Advanced Art of Broadcasting classes, the City of Saco, and non-profit organizations that have educational content to share. As an extra-curricular activity, TATV currently produces four shows that are aired on Channel 3 in Saco, Maine as well as tapings for the school sports games.
