Aroostook Valley Railroad #70 & #71

Aroostook Valley Railroad #70

Nos. 70 and 71 were built by Wason in 1912 for the Aroostook Valley Railroad in Northern Maine. They have railroad roofs and the classic arch windows characteristic of most heavy interurban equipment. The cars have two compartments, one for passengers and the other for baggage and express, and are called combine cars. Both ran between Caribou and Presque Isle for more than 30 years and were acquired by the Museum in 1946. In frequent interurban tradition, these cars have names as well as numbers, in this case honoring the terminal cities. Individuals and geographic features were also popular for car names.
