Effective: March 1, 2005

This policy pertains to all domestic animals brought onto the property of the Seashore Trolley Museum (the Museum). It includes domestic animals brought onto the property by members, employees, member guests, visitors, and any other person having business on the property. Service animals, including those performing tasks for the disabled, law enforcement, fire departments or military are exempt from this policy. This policy shall supercede all previous policies pertaining to animals and or animal control.

Visitors:
Domestic animals, except for service animals, are not permitted in exhibit or store areas of the Museum. This includes all areas past the Museum parking lot. Domestic animals may be walked in the parking lot or the field adjacent to the parking lot but must be leashed at all times. It is the owner's responsibility to pick up after their animal. Domestic animals may be restrained in a vehicle during their visit to the Museum, but not for a disproportionate time during an extended visit.

Members, member's guests, and employees:
Domestic animals are not permitted in the exhibit or store areas of the Museum. This includes all areas past the Museum parking lot. Domestic animals may be walked in the parking lot or the field adjacent to the parking lot, but must be leashed at all times. It is the owner's responsibility to pick up after their animal. Domestic animals may be restrained in a vehicle during their visit to the Museum, but not for a disproportionate period of time during an extended visit. Domestic animals are permitted north of the parking lot if restrained within the owner's vehicle while the owner makes a brief visit to the Museum property, or if otherwise approved. Under NO circumstances are any domestic animals allowed in work areas of the Town House Shop or other known sites of work activity, except service animals performing their tasks for disabled members or employees are permitted in areas made safe for the handler and animal within the designated work areas.

Any domestic that is the subject of a recorded complaint from a member of the public, NEERHS member or employee will be banned from the property pending an investigation. If the animal is deemed to be aggressive, it will be permanently banned from the Museum premises. Visitors, members, guests, and employees who violate the policy, as set forth above, may be asked to leave the Museum property by a duly appointed Museum officer. Individual members who violate this policy, as set forth above, are further subject to progressive disciplinary action including termination as prescribed in NEERHS By-Laws, Article VI. – Membership, Section 3. Employees who violate this policy, as set forth above, are further subject to the conditions of employment as prescribed in the Employees Handbook. The Handbook shall be the guideline for appropriate action.
